Medicaid Braces QualificationWho Qualifies for Medicaid Orthodontic Treatment

You must have the traditional Texas Medicaid coverage.  We do not accept STAR Health.  Generally, your child must be between 12 and 20 years of age to qualify.  Children and teens ages 9-11 years can be seen for early diagnosis.  Your child must have NEVER had braces before to qualify.

The orthodontist will evaluate your child’s orthodontic needs.  The State of Texas has established guidelines to determine the severity of each child’s case.  Medicaid rates bite problems by a point system which the orthodontist determines.  A child must score enough points to be able to submit the case for Medicaid approval to be eligible for the 100% orthodontic treatment coverage.

If patient qualifies, we submit child’s case and it takes 2-3 weeks before the state will respond. We will then contact the parents notifying them we have received approval of treatment letter from Medicaid and giving a future appointment.
